It is with pleasure that we communicate that ROSSS S.p.A. is working on another project, the SmartISSS Project (Smart Industrial Steel Structures), co-financed under Tuscany FESR 2014-2020.
The SmartISS project aims at the creation of a competitive supply chain able to design and build self-supporting steel warehouses with high receptive potential and high level of prefabrication, through the development of innovative test methods in the seismic analysis phase and in the collapse analysis phase because of fire, through the creation of new dissipative bracing elements which are going to completely absorb the seismic action and the setting up of a control system inside the warehouse capable of monitoring some significant elements from a structural point of view.
The structural system of the warehouse must maintain the typical ductility of modern anti-seismic structures, while at the same time ensuring a high resistance to fire of some portions of the warehouse; in other words, the warehouse must be designed to avoid fragile breakage mechanisms during the earthquake and in such a way as to develop a “safe” collapse mechanism in relation to possible fire scenarios.
At the moment there are no regulations or guidelines that allow designers and companies to size and create warehouses capable of satisfying both the anti-seismic requirements deriving from the so-called capacity design and the safety requirements required by the so-called fire engineering.
Concerning the control system, the idea is to real time monitor the warehouse structures by detecting critical events through the measurement of deformations or vibrations deriving from impacts, earthquakes and other exceptional actions.
The continuous monitoring aims to limit, if not to completely replace, the periodic inspections of the structures (inspections carried out by experts in the field) today imposed by the regulations in force on safety in the workplace.
Therefore, the goal is to create a “Safe and Intelligent“ warehouse, able to meet safety requirements and to maintain them over time using a real time monitoring system.
