ERBAMEA S.r.l.: a manufacturing company in the phytotherapy sector

ERBAMEA S.r.l. is a company based in Umbria, an area rich in biodiversity where numerous medicinal plants grow. Over the years, ERBAMEA S.r.l. has successfully combined herbal tradition with scientific research, establishing itself in the pharmaceutical field, specifically in phytotherapy, by enhancing the value of a wide variety of plants.

The growth of the business, together with the expansion of its product range, made it necessary to implement a targeted intervention in warehouse organisation, with the aim of improving operational efficiency and supporting logistics management in a more structured way.

To meet these requirements, ERBAMEA S.r.l. entrusted ROSSS with the design of a customised storage solution aimed at optimising space, facilitating picking operations, and streamlining the management of pallets and large packages.

ERBAMEA S.r.l.’s needs: more space and greater management efficiency

The increase in demand and product diversification highlighted the need to reorganise the warehouse more efficiently. In particular, the project needed to address three key operational requirements:

  • increase of productivity;
  • improvement of logistics organisation;
  • proper management of a wide range of products.

For a company operating in a sector characterised by a broad and complex product assortment, having a well-organised warehouse means improving internal flows, facilitating daily operations, and maintaining a high level of control over logistics processes.

ROSSS’s solution for ERBAMEA S.r.l.: Iron Fist with a mixed configuration for storage and picking

For ERBAMEA S.r.l., ROSSS designed and installed an Iron Fist system with a mixed configuration, developed to integrate pallet storage and the handling of individual parcels for order fulfilment within the same warehouse.

This solution is particularly suitable for environments where storage capacity, product accessibility, and operational speed must be combined. The mixed configuration enables a more rational organisation of warehouse functions, improving both storage and picking phases.

A multi-level warehouse layout

The system was structured across multiple levels, with space allocation aligned with the client’s operational needs:

  • lower levels dedicated to sorting and large packages preparation activities;
  • upper levels used for full pallet storage.

This configuration allows for effective separation of warehouse functions, improving flow management and facilitating operators’ activities.

The role of carton flow in picking operations

To further enhance picking operations, the pallet rack was integrated with a carton flow system. This solution uses gravity to facilitate the movement of packages towards the picking area, making them rapidly available to operators.
The implementation of carton flow contributed to:

reduce picking times;
increase operational flow efficiency;
improve overall order preparation performance.

Technical data of the installed system

The installed system features the following technical specifications:

Upright height: 5.7 m
Max upright load capacity: 5,100 kg
Max beam load capacity: 3,250 kg
Anti-fall protections: 234

The installed anti-fall protections prevent pallets from falling from upper levels and enhance operational safety, protecting both operators and stored goods.

Benefits for ERBAMEA S.r.l.: optimised picking and efficient logistics

Thanks to the new Iron Fist mixed-configuration system, ERBAMEA S.r.l. now benefits from a more efficient, organised, and operationally suitable logistics warehouse.

Key advantages include:

– improved storage space organisation;
– smoother management of different product types;
– faster and more effective picking operations;
– better integration between pallet storage and order fulfilment;
– a more flexible logistics system designed to support business growth.

This project demonstrates how a customised industrial racking system can become a concrete tool to enhance warehouse efficiency and respond precisely to specific operational needs.
