Albalat is an agricultural cooperative society headquartered in Modena. As a member of the Consorzio GranTerre-Parmareggio, it represents a unique supply chain in the production of Parmigiano Reggiano and its main ingredient: milk.
With 616 hectares of land and a cheese factory that produces 35,000 wheels of Parmigiano every year, Albalat operates with passion and dedication in the provinces of Modena, Bologna, Reggio Emilia and Mantua.
After the earthquake in May 2012, Albalat had to react to the urgent need to recover and safely store its prestigious wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano to return to full operation.
The challenge was double: create a warehouse that could be anti-seismic and functional, which could host all the wheels without compromising the storage capacity and perfectly compatible with the machinery used for the cheese handling.
In just 4 months since the 2012 earthquake, ROSSS performed a true engineering miracle: an 80-metre long by 53-metre deep warehouse, made using Tree Cheese scalere, which are anti-seismic shelving units for the storage of 108,960 wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano.
The warehouse – subdivided into five cells connected by internal doors – is equipped with 7.75 metre high shelving with 20 loading boards each.
A state-of-the-art aeration system ensures the perfect ripening of the cheese. Moreover, it is fully compatible with revolving mechanisms, which guarantee cleanliness.
